A fixed address on the internet.

A static IP gives your line a permanent, dedicated address on the internet. Useful when you want to reach your home network from outside, run a server, or have something else point reliably at your line.

In plain English

What's a static IP?

By default, your Pine Media line uses Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT), the modern standard for handling public IPv4 across our network. It just works for everything outbound: browsing, streaming, gaming, video calls, smart-home apps. You'll never know it's there.

Where CGNAT doesn't help is when something needs to reach back in to your home: port forwarding, self-hosting, certain VPN setups, or services that whitelist your IP address.

A static IP gives your line its own dedicated public IPv4 address. It belongs to your line and stays the same week after week, year after year, so anything that needs to find you reliably can.

Use cases

What you can do with one.

Most homes won't notice the difference. But if you do any of these, a static IP makes life simpler.

Remote access to your network

VPN home from a hotel or your phone. Your address never moves, so the connection just works.

Self-hosting

Run a small website, file share, Plex library or game server from home. No dynamic-DNS workarounds.

CCTV and security cameras

Check the cameras from anywhere using a single permanent address.

VoIP and video calling

More predictable for SIP and VoIP setups that prefer a fixed source address.

IP-whitelisted access

Work systems and bank portals that only let you in from approved IPs always recognise yours.

Smart home control

Reach your home automation hub from outside the house without relying on a third-party cloud.

How much

£2/month, on any plan.

One dedicated IPv4 address, added to any Pine Media full fibre line. No setup fee. Add it at sign-up, or call us to add it to an existing line.

Common questions

Static IP FAQs.

Do I actually need one?
Probably not. Browsing, streaming, gaming, video calls and most smart-home setups all work fine over our default CGNAT setup. You'll want a static IP if you're hosting something at home, using a VPN to get back into your network, or relying on services that whitelist by IP. None of those work through CGNAT.
Can I add it later?
Yes. You can add or remove a static IP at any point in your contract. Drop us a line and we'll update your account.
What kind of address is it?
A dedicated public IPv4 address. Not shared, not behind carrier-grade NAT.
Will it slow my connection?
No. The address itself has no effect on speed.
Is it really mine?
Yes. The address is assigned to your line and stays yours for as long as you have the add-on.
Can I get more than one?
Yes, larger blocks are available for business customers. Get in touch and we'll talk through what you need.
